Michael Abraham, was born in Montreal in 1965, and is a graduate of the Ontario college of Art. He completed a fifth year of fine art studies in Florence Italy in 1991. Abraham loves creating paintings that are narrative, storied peopled scapes of inner and outer realities.
Abraham's stylized realism draws on his appreciation of art history, but his artwork conveys a psychological playfulness and a layered insight that is his own. Michael Scott of the Vancouver Sun has written, "Enigma and imagination are what is most rewarding in Abraham's work", and "Abraham's gift for composition percolates throughout this entire exhibition". His artwork was selected to showcase "Canada's artistic genius" at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Canadian Collection at APEC'97). His art has graced numerous magazine covers and has received numerous art reviews.
Abraham's original oil paintings are in private collections from London to Singapore, as well as in the collection of the Vancouver Art Gallery, and Hollywood stars. His work is currently represented by Gallery Jones in Vancouver, and Gallery Art Mayence in Germany.

Lisa Birke attended Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design where she was awarded full tuition scholarships for three consecutive years graduating with a B.A. in 1998 and a B.F.A. in 1999.
Birke paints traditional landscape and still life as a backdrop for line drawn characterizations of ordinary people stuck in tragic situations. Witty, humorous, and disturbing, she calls her work "eye candy with a hint of acid." Michael Scott, critic for the Vancouver Sun, writes "Birke, paint(s) with all the trilling unself-conscious gusto of nightingales singing." Gary Michael Dault, critic for the Globe and Mail has written that her paintings "possess a crackling visual inventiveness supported by an almost disconcerting virtuosity with the brush."
Birke's most recent exhibition was at Bau-Xi Gallery Toronto and Vancouver, February 2006.

Charles Forsberg
oil on canvas
36" x 48"
sold - enlarge
Energetic, moody and free from artistic conventions, Charles' paintings are ultimately abstract expressionism in its purest form. Charles has virtually eliminated the brush, working the paint directly on to the canvas to create strong evocative patterns. His paintings evoke a spiritual tranquility and ethereal luminosity. Saturated rich colours and form, blend fluidly on canvas into gorgeous lyrical compositions.
Influences range from local painters Gordon Smith and Jack Shadbolt to Mark Rothko, Anselm Kiefer and Cy Twombly. His work can be found in numerous private and public collections in North America.

She concentrates her attention on the quality of lines using graphite and ink while invoking emotion with the use of color. Her main theme remains the exploration of the female mind as it relates to the body.

Jim Gislason

Jim Gislason was born in Vancouver and studied both painting and printmaking at the Emily Carr college of Art and Design where he graduated in 1988. Since then he has divided his studio time equally between Vancouver and Montreal. Jim's artworks are found in private and public collections throughout North America.
Gislason's work is an original creation, fluidly blending painting and screen-printing. The textural quality of the work is the result of what is at bottom a screen-printing technique adapted to painting. Any element that is in relief began as an image burnt into the silkscreen mesh by a photosensitive process common to commercial printing. However, rather than ink printing the image onto a surface, oil paint is extruded through the screen, allowing for a risen, more three dimensional effect. Gislason is truly an innovator with this energetic and stunning technique. Gislason displays thematic diversity in his paintings, each work bearing individual characteristics, yet all are connected by a cohesive harmony of style and content.

In Jude Griebel's paintings and prints, elements of storybook narrative and adult experience are combined to create scenes that have a foothold in both the real and imaginary. Regarding his work, Griebel states: "I am interested in how youths are able to project their imaginations onto domestic and everyday spaces, transforming and doubting the familiar. It is this state of questioning, anxiety and nostalgic wonder that I attempt to translate through my painting." The costume has become a repetitive theme in his work as a tool of transformation, disappearance and disconnection from reality.

She seeks to honour not to unravel the connection between the outer surface of the world and the inner realm of spirit. Gabryel looks to nature and botanical forms as well as to the historical tradition of vanitas paintings for her motifs and compositions. Her expressions are less about representation than illuminations of inner states of consciousness.

George Vergette is a young artist living and working in Vancouver. Having shown his work in various solo and group exhibitions across Canada, Vergette uses both medium and content to insert the viewer into each piece, giving a personal dimension to these deceptively minimal works.
Vergette's paintings first seduce with a layer of resin, a glossy finish that is satiny smooth. Further beneath this perfect exterior hide imperfections: drips of paint, marks, lines, and scrawled text.

Richard Edward Wlodarczak, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Honours from The University of Manitoba in 1994. He then went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the renowned School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. Travel in Europe followed, helping Richard experience both his heritage and the master works of art history first hand.
Now living in Vancouver, Richard continues to work through and beyond his German Expressionist and American Abstract Expressionist influences with his new body of work. His paintings display formal and metaphorical relationships where an awareness of composition, colour and space provide a balance for chaos and disorder. Modern in sensibility, the mystery of the primitive remains.
Richard's work can be found in private and corporate collections in Canada, The U.S., and Europe.
