The ARTHOUSE GALLERY is presenting a collaborative group exhibit with 11 youth from Lax Kw'alaams First Nations and 20 established contemporary artists from British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.

The youth, (between the ages of 11 and 14 years) from the Lax Kw'alaams Band in Port Simpson, north of Prince Rupert, have depicted the uniqueness of their remote rural lives, community and environment through black and white photographs. Using these black and white photos as their impetus and inspiration, twenty distinguished B.C. artists chosen for this exhibit, have used these photographs to create a piece of artwork in the medium of their choice.

The outcome (being filmed by the curator Julie Lee for the National Film Board of Canada) documents the lives of both the youth, the artists, and their collaboration in this art initiative.

The art exhibit is a collection of photographs, paintings and mixed media artwork that is insightful, and imaginative. The project encourages inter-community partnership, cross-cultural and creative opportunities and a uniquely collaborative art process whereby the sale of each piece is distributed in a "FAIR TRADE" process to all parties.

Lax Kw'alaams First Nations Chief Councilor, Garry Reece will be in attendance at the Opening to discuss the importance of this project. The youth will also be in attendance, performing traditional dance.
